Loyal Lobos Is the Winter Antidote We’ve All Needed

The hazy “Criminals” recalls shades of The Sundays and Mazzy Star.

Andrea Silva, better known by the name Loyal Lobos, is a Colombian-born, LA-based singer/songwriter whose hazy style of pop balladry recalls an era where groups like The Sundays and Mazzy Star ruled the indie airwaves. “A love song to a friend,” says Silva, “Criminals” is a song whose lyrics sound like a letter from Thelma to Louise, as Silva coos “I’d kill for you, and you probably would too. And then we’d help each other. Hide the body and run away” over a simple guitar lick. The track was executive produced by Teddy Geiger, the pop maestro who has written and produced tracks by Lizzo and Shawn Mendes, to name a few. Silva is currently hard at work on her full length, but the obvious chemistry on “Criminals” leaves us hopeful that Geiger will stick around to help oversee more tunes.

You can listen to “Criminals”—as well as selections from her 2018 EP, The Fallhere.
